In keeping with the economic climate, Old Town Printing is reducing the prices for color copying. Effective immediately, color COPIES are 35¢ per copy for 8.5 x 11 and 8.5 x 14 (legal) size sheets. Ledger sheets (11x17") are 70¢ per copy.

These prices are in effect until further notice. A copy means placing your original on the copying machine and pressing the COPY button. These prices do not include enlarging, reducing, multiple images on a copy or printing from files.

Old Town Printing welcomes your computer files. You have so much more control in the layout process by "doing it yourself"

BUT...

There are many pitfalls in creating layouts on your desktop machine. Regardless who you hire to do your commercial printing ALWAYS CALL YOUR PRINTER FIRST AND ASK ABOUT ANY SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS in creating your layout.

It's EXTREMELY easy to create a document on your computer which is impossible to be printed by your commercial printer or will be extremely expensive to print. Did I mention this tip - ALWAY CALL YOUR PRINTER BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR LAYOUT. We don't charge for our advice and we can save you tons of money.

The most popular program used by our clients is Microsoft's Publisher. It's economical and has many features which make it a powerful program for designing documents. But you must use it carefully. Plan your document (i.e. content, quantity to be printed, whether it's in color or black and white, how it's to be printed) BEFORE you begin typing.

Old Town Printing was an official service provider for Microsoft Publisher (the service provider program was discontinued last year). We are still an official service provider for Adobe products, i.e. InDeSign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.

Old Town Printing Wins First Place Awards!

What a way to begin the new year, 2009! We just learned that Old Town Printing, in glorious, sunny, downtown Christiansburg, has once again won several FIRST PLACE printing awards!

Almost every year, for the past 25 years, we've submitted printed materials to the Printing Industries of Virginia (PIVA), our statewide trade association. For many years we received polite honorable mentions for the quality of our printed pieces.

Old Town Printing has ALWAYS been a leader in adopting new technology - we were the first to sign onto the internet (remember Bevnet?), the first in the NRV do use computer to plate technology, the first to offer digital printing...

As 2009 begins, it is our intention to use this blog to help our clients with their printing projects by offering advice on using their software, tips for creating items which can be printed economically and to answer questions about the mysterious world of commercial printing.
